Dr. Hekmat Alighanbari is a professor of aerospace engineering at Ryerson University, Toronto Canada. He was born in Shiraz, Iran. He received the BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology in 1986, and the MSc degree specialized in Aerodynamics from Shiraz University in 1989. He was awarded PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering with Specialization in Nonlinear Aeroelasticity from McGill University in 1995.
After his graduation in 1995 until 1999, Dr. Alighanbari lectured various courses at McGill University as an Adjunct Professor, and at the same time he worked as a researcher under contracts with the National Research Council and the Department of National Defence. He also worked as a Senior Engineer at Bombardier Aerospace in Montreal from 1996 to 1998.
Dr. Alighanbari joined Ryerson University in 1999 as a faculty member. Since then he has instructed various aerospace engineering courses in graduate and undergraduate levels, performed several aerospace industry related research activities in the areas of NonlinearAeroelasticity, Unsteady Aerodynamics, Active Flutter Control, Bifurcation and Chaos, and trained several PhD and Master’s students. From these research projects, he has published and presented numerous papers in well-known journals and conferences. He has been member of several administrative teams such as the university senate, faculty hiring, and faculty promotion committees.
